Hey, it’s Jess here! Over the years, I’ve learned so much working in the beauty industry—helping countless clients achieve their dream results, training beauty therapists to refine their skills, and running The Gold Standard – Beauty and Skin here in Hammond Park. Every day, I see how much impact we, as beauty therapists, can have on someone’s confidence, energy and wellbeing.

Now, I want to give back by sharing what I’ve learned to help Australian beauty therapists build successful careers. Supporting small businesses and helping encourage and grow our home grown talent in the beauty industry is something I’m so passionate about, because when we thrive, so do our clients. Here are my top tips (and a few don’ts!) for creating a salon experience your clients will absolutely love.

Must-Do Beauty Salon Tips

  • Understand Your Clients' Needs:
This might seem obvious, but how often do we really stop to ask our clients what they’re looking for? Take the time to chat with them about their preferences, beauty goals, and even what exciting events they’ve got coming up. Whether it’s a wedding, a special night out, or just their regular self-care routine, tailoring your services to suit their needs makes all the difference.
  • Invest in Quality Products and Continuous Learning:
Quality matters. If you want your clients coming back for more, you need to deliver the best—and that starts with the products you use. For skincare, I’m obsessed with the Dermafix range, the DermaFix MD Mandelic Cleanser has gives gentle yet effective results. If brows are their focus, introduce them to our game-changing Lift & Lock Brow WaxAnd don’t forget high-performance makeup products, and sunscreen—Australia’s sun can be unforgiving, so using top-notch skincare is a must.

  • But it’s not just about the products. Stay curious and keep learning! Take courses, attend workshops, and follow industry trends. Clients notice when you go the extra mile to offer cutting-edge techniques and solutions.

  • Create a Welcoming and Comfortable Environment:
  • First impressions count, and your salon’s vibe sets the tone for the entire experience. Greet your clients warmly, and make your space inviting and relaxing. Professional touches—like
  • wearing professional beauty uniforms or upgrading your setup with premium spa bedding and cozy spa gowns and headbands
  • —can elevate the experience and show
  • little details that elevate the experience and show your clients they’re in great hands.
  • Spread Positivity
Helping Australian women look and feel good is at the heart of what I do. Your treatments don’t just enhance someone’s outer beauty—they boost their confidence and empower them to shine. Encourage your clients to share their glowing results on social media, and create a branded hashtag like #thegoldstandardbeauty so they can tag you. Seeing your clients’ transformations online not only feels rewarding but also builds a sense of community around your salon.

  • Never Allow This Standard In Your Salon

  • Avoid Overbooking and Rushing Services:
I get it—when the calendar’s full, it feels like you’re winning. But overbooking can lead to rushed treatments, and that’s never a good look. Make sure you’re allowing enough time between appointments to give every client the attention and care they deserve.

  • Don’t Neglect Client Communication:
One of the worst things you can do is assume you know what your client wants without asking. Skipping consultations or not checking in during a service can lead to misunderstandings, and that’s not what anyone wants. Always take the time to listen, you’ll build trust and ensure the clients leave the salon happy, plus if you know they’ve got an important event or date coming up it can help you as a professional understand why it’s so important to them and what they are looking for.

  • Avoid a Disorganised Salon Environment:
A messy salon can send the wrong message to your clients. Keep your workspace clean, tidy, and hygienic. It not only shows professionalism but also makes the experience more relaxing and enjoyable for your clients.

People may forget what you say, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel—so make their experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible.

  • Never Ignore Client Feedback:
Feedback is one of the most valuable tools for growth, even when it’s hard to hear. Let’s be honest there is absolutely nothing worse than not feeling heard, so, whether it’s an online review or a comment from a client, take it seriously and respond professionally. Address concerns quickly and show your clients that their opinions matter. Embracing feedback not only helps you improve but also builds trust and loyalty, showing clients you’re always striving to be the best.

  • At the end of the day, creating The Gold Standard salon experience is about going the extra mile. By focusing on your clients’ needs, investing in quality products and training, and maintaining a welcoming space, you’ll build trust and loyalty that keeps clients coming back.

It’s the little touches and genuine care that make all the difference. Whether you’re an established beauty therapist or just starting out, I hope these tips inspire you to refine your salon experience, grow your business, and give your clients the best glow-ups ever.

    xx Jess
